My journey into vaping

Day Fifty Nine, Two months of vaping and I feel fine

I haven’t been around much this week, and I won’t be about much next week either. The house has been packed as if I were about to move out and I’m up “past high doh” with the stress. The boiler is being changed at ‘rse AM today, the internal and external insulation (that was supposed to start last Monday) starts next Monday. The new kitchen goes in after that and allergy-free water based organic paint will be sloshed around liberally in gaps in the insulation schedule. I will have a working PC and a finished room to use it in come Monday night. I just doubt I’ll be fit to do anything much on it. I am getting a shiny new voice recorder that has my well-loved speech to text software with it, so I am likely to be able to do some writing even if I can’t look at a screen at all. I’m registering moderate to extreme stress, and yet I still haven’t wanted to smoke a tobacco cigarette. I sometimes get the “something’s missing” feeling, and then think “oh right, yes. Vape not smoke.” and reach for the VTR. I’m convinced that the only thing that would ever start me smoking again would be if I could no longer vape.

My current “all day vape” is my own home made creme caramel flavoured ejuice in the RSST with a 1.6 ohm coil and cotton yarn as wick, on the VTR  at 12 watts. Best friend surprised me by turning up at the house last week with a Kayfun that he’d got from a vape shop somewhere. History doesn’t relate where and he didn’t tell me how much it had cost. The thing is very nicely made, and I coiled it and wicked it for him without much hassle (it shorted on the chimney from too long legs on the coil, but soon fixed that) and he was happily puffing away on the coconut and mango juice I made for him. Although he says it makes him sneeze and tastes bland. He picked up my Minty the Toff T-juice home made mix and filled his kayfun with it by mistake this morning, and I suddenly got an “OH WOW” from him about a juice. Everything else had tasted bland to him, but here was something he was really enjoying the taste of. He waxed lyrical (for him) over the creaminess on the exhale. And the best bit “and I’ve only sneezed once!”  I wanted to punch the air! Finally I’ve got him on a juice he really likes. I think I’ll get some afrodizzyac and maybe some vamp vape concentrates and try him on those too. The only difference in the mix is the flavourings and the nicotine strength (he wanted 18mg) so it’s either the nic, the mango or the coconut that’s making him sneeze. I’ll make everything up at my standard 12mg and see how he goes.

I’ve bitten the bullet and have ordered an Igo-w dripper to see what all the fuss is about with drippers. Then I shall start saving the pennies for a Kayfun, and see about a squape whenever a genuine one becomes available to buy using my birthday money in July. I am absolutely delighted with the RSST, and I know I’m daft using cotton in a genny, but I have reasons for that which include a nasty little nickel allergy which makes me want to keep metal to a minimum in my vape gear. I haven’t had a problem, but I’d rather be safe than sorry. And yes, that is an idiotic concern really considering the amount of nickel in cigarette smoke.

I’m still not totally happy with my VTR. It’s practical and heavy enough to be used as a blunt instrument should the need arise. It’s not really my style, although the weight of it in my hand helps with the poor grip issues that I have. A rewick often turns the airhole on the RSST to an odd angle for the genny tilt which causes problems with my wonky hands. There is a dearth of classic and elegantly styled mods for the female vaper that aren’t pink, purple, silver or covered in bling. I don’t want to look like I’m tooting on Robocop’s third leg, or a light-sabre nor do I want a cigalike with a matching handbag. I don’t like not being able to see how much battery power I have left, and I seriously dislike the voltage drop off on a mech mod. So VV/VW is the way I roll and an 18650 battery is a must. Where are my practical and elegant non-bling VW mods that aren’t on a waiting list and don’t require me to sell my firstborn? I’m probably going to settle for a Vamo or an SVD at this point, but they won’t stand upright on a desk or table as happily as the VTR does, so they’re not as practical for me. I’m still dangerously close to Kryten’s groinal attachment territory with these though.

That’s where I am in my vaping journey two months in. I’ve made 250mls of good juice, learned to coil well enough to vape on and I’m down to 12mg nicotine in my juice. In myself I’m as happy as I was when I smoked. Happier for the fact that I have all the stated benefits of being a non-smoker from ridding myself of the smell to lack of wheezing. The idea of smoking a cigarette is nasty to me now. Long may it continue.
